This is my most favorite Australian Shepherd in the whole world. His name is Tyco and he is just an amazing dog.

I always enjoy the opportunity to do dog portraits. Generally the subject is fun to work with and the owners always appreciate the memories good photos provide.  So if you have a precious pooch and want some lasting memories, drop me a line and we will see what we can do.  Also, if you want to see another great picture of Tyco check out my JPG Mag page.

Getting ready to buy another camera body, hence expanding the possibilities of what type of photographic services I can offer. The first pay off will come at the Humboldt County Fair where I will be able to shoot both stunning racing action shots (similiar to some below) as well as the bread and butter win photos. Great day for BPI!

Unofficial

When people hear that I take pictures at a horse track they automatically assume that I do the photo finish, which I don’t. The photo finish is on the roof or high in the grandstand and uses essentially moving film and a track side mirror to capture the exact moment when a winner is declared. Most of what I do is taken from track level and is used for publicity and press photography as well as commercial sale for advertising and private sale for lovers of horse racing. This photo I took today while working for Vassar Photography shows the winner, and how close the race was. I titled it “Unofficial” because though you could have used this shot to show the winner in front, it is not an official photo finish photo.

Being Used Is So Great

•July 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Its all part of ego I imagine, but when I take pictures for people I always want to see them used. When my photos are utilized it gives me a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment, whether it be some free photos I took for friends or a dynamic action shot for a big stakes race or any other assignment. Recently I was checking out this great band Kill the Kids myspace page and lo and behold, there were some band pics that I had taken of them a few months ago! Hazah said I. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/wearekillthekids

They are the head shots about halfway down the page.

Wasted Weekend. Or is it?

•July 8, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Last week was the opening week of the Alameda County Fair, which is always a big deal for local horse racing fans. Combine that with the three day weekend for the Fourth of July and you have all the trappings of one long week. The problem I have with long weeks is that after a long week that last thing anyone wants to do is to take work home. So needless to say, I took the camera home but didn’t really use it, a waste of two days off to shoot for myself, but not a waste in the relaxation department. Since this is my photo blog, I am including a picture, but not one I shot recently, though it could be.

Back in the Bay and a Photo from Stockton

Well, the San Joaquin County Fair in Stockton ended on Sunday with a scorcher of 110 degrees, which made it a long day to say the least. On Saturday the fair ran Wiener Dog Races, and on Sunday they had a huge Pink Ribbon day to help support finding a cure for breast cancer and spread breast cancer awareness.  Part of Sunday’s festivities included the running of the $50,000 Pink Ribbon Stakes won by a horse by the name of Carbonite.  Below is the shot I took that went out to the papers and other racing publications like calracing.com.  As I write this, the images should be on the homepage.

So now I am in Pleasanton at the Alameda County Fair.  Good times!

This was a great show, I especially enjoyed Lessons in Failure, follow the link to check them out same with Dogfood.  Majority Lost killed it and got a great response for being an “out of town” band.  Thanks to Shakers Pub, Travis from Lessons in Failure and everyone who made shooting this show so much fun, even Majority Lost.
